Heather Coffee : Muse What are you teaching?

What are you teaching?

Posted on May 21st, 2008 by Heather Coffee : Muse Heather Coffee
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 21, 2008:

I thought that I was teaching others, by their observation of me, outspokeness and individuality. That is what I've always hoped people learned. Be who you are, say what is on your mind, never be afraid to express yourself or to fear ridicule for standing up for what you believe in.

But several people, over the past few years, have said something to me that I didn't expect to hear. "You are the most spiritual person I know." How does someone take that? I heard it again a couple weeks ago, and it still stuns me. I'm certainly not the most spiritual persona I know, and most assuredly not that I know of. I'm no Wise Master, just another mortal on the road, just like you. But then I think about the people who have said this to me, about how their lives and the people in them must seem so...can i use the word empty here? If they live a life in which they see spirituality, someone who embraces their own spiritual nature, so rarely that they feel compelled to remark upon it, I'm sure it could seem like some glowing beacon of hope to them.

So now it is my hope that by seeing that it is possible for a regular person, a mere mortal with a job and bills, to live spiritually, that it would inspire them to believe that they can do so too. I ohpe that what I am teaching is how to tihnk about life differently. That has really been my mission all along. It's part of why I'm so unique and outspoken. So the pieces do fit together after all.

Heather,

Your blog reminds me of a saying “we are all spiritual beings living a human experience, not the other way around.”

You are a spiritual being. And if you believe in the teachings of such great masters as Jesus and Buddha the most affective way to teach others is to be the example. Gandi's most famous quote fits well, “be the change you want see in the world.”

People who find you to be spiritual are those whose consciousness is high enough to recognize the spiritual nature in others but not conscious enough to see it in themselves. Be the spiritual example and soon they will see it in themselves.

It is the common man and woman who will bring about full consciousness in the world, not the spiritual masters. The masters job is to show the way.
